Public Housing Authorities by State
Browse 3,779 Public Housing Authorities across 54 U.S. states and territories. Each state page lists every HUD-recognized PHA operating there, organized by city.
About These Listings
The data behind this directory comes directly from HUD’s public ArcGIS feature service for Public Housing Authorities, which is updated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development on an ongoing basis. We refresh our copy of the data periodically and add slugs, links, and editorial context. Because PHAs occasionally merge, dissolve, or change name, the most authoritative source for any individual authority remains its own website or the HUD field office that oversees it.
Don’t see your state? Every U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam are represented. If a state has zero PHAs in our data, it means none of HUD’s currently published authorities are physically headquartered there — but residents may still be served by an authority based in a neighboring jurisdiction.
How to Use a State Page
- Click your state. You’ll land on a page that lists every PHA in that state, grouped alphabetically by city.
- Find the city closest to you. Many large counties are served by a single county-wide authority rather than a city authority — if you don’t see your city, try the county seat.
- Open the authority’s detail page. You’ll get the full mailing address, phone number, the programs they administer, and the current open / closed status of their waiting lists.
- Call before you visit. Hours and intake procedures vary widely. Always confirm by phone that the authority is currently accepting in-person applications before you make the trip.
