Housing Authorities Near Me
Enter your ZIP code to find the U.S. Public Housing Authorities closest to you, ranked by real distance — not an estimate. This tool uses the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's own address and coordinate data for all 3,778 authorities in our directory, combined with the U.S. Census Bureau's official ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) centroid coordinates.
How this works
We calculate the straight-line (great-circle) distance from your ZIP code's center point to the on-file address of every housing authority in our directory, then show the 20 closest. This is a distance ranking, not a service-area lookup: housing authorities serve defined jurisdictions (a city, county, or region), and the closest authority by distance does not always administer housing at your specific address — some rural ZIP codes are served by an authority whose office is a county or two away. Always confirm coverage by contacting the authority directly.
Data sources: HUD's Public Housing Authorities dataset (address and coordinates, refreshed periodically — see our housing stats page for the freshness check) and the U.S. Census Bureau's 2025 ZCTA Gazetteer file (ZIP code center coordinates). Both are free, public datasets; neither requires an account or paid key to access. If your ZIP code isn't found, it may be a very new ZIP code not yet in the Census Bureau's file, or a non-residential ZIP (e.g. a single large building or PO box range) that the ZCTA system doesn't assign a standalone centroid to.
